Learn music by color — a new way to train your ear
Some people with perfect pitch say they "see" color when they hear a note. Chromaphonic explores whether that pitch-color connection can be trained deliberately — even without perfect pitch.
The 12 chromatic notes map directly onto a 12-hue color wheel, so the same note always renders as the same color. By repeatedly experiencing "C is red, D is yellow-green," the goal is to build a real association between sound and color — eventually recalling a color just by hearing a note, or a note just by seeing its color.
FREE PLAY
Tap any key and explore freely. Choose from 4 keyboard modes, from a simple 7-note (no sharps) keyboard to an Unlimited mode spanning every octave.
AUTO PLAY
The screen fills with the color of the note being played, and the note name fades in a moment later — a hands-free way to just watch and listen. A soft metronome ticks the beat as it cycles through new notes.
QUIZ
Two quiz types — Color Quiz and Note Name Quiz — each with 3 difficulty levels. The Note Name Quiz also tracks your response time, with a personal-best ranking to watch your progress.
CHORDS (unlocked with a one-time purchase)
Play 7 chord types — Major, Minor, Diminished, Augmented, Dominant 7th, Major 7th, and Minor 7th. Each chord's notes are shown side by side in color, so you can start recognizing chords by their color combination, too. Available across Auto Play, Free Play, and the Quiz.
